Mogul Mechanical Engineering Ltd, based in Cwmbran, has continued to expand its in-house capabilities by investing in a broad range of machinery from Selmach Machinery, reinforcing its position as a one-stop fabrication specialist. The business provides structural steel erection, custom platforms, guarding, ladders, and more complex fabrications — often including on-site work.

Director Ben Harris shared insight into how the business has developed its in-house capabilities by sourcing machinery from Selmach Machinery, describing them as a one-stop shop for fabrication equipment.

Mogul had previously outsourced a significant amount of work, but as the company looked to grow, bringing production in-house became a priority. Investing in machinery meant they could reduce lead times and gain more control over their workflow. Selmach’s range of machines, showroom support, and clear branding helped the team find exactly what they needed to meet their fabrication demands.

The initial purchase included a wide selection of machines in one order:

  • RVD ER Fibre Laser
  • Morgan Rushworth ASBR 2050/190 Sheet Rolls
  • PBR 1250/90 Sheet Rolls
  • PSR 50/155 Section Roller
  • HFP 775/30 H-Frame Press
  • BP 2540/25 Box and Pan Folder
  • Kepp 150 Belt Grinder
  • Meyer SR25 Pillar Drill
  • Promotech PRO 110 HP Portable Punch

More recently, Mogul has received a fibre laser machine and is awaiting delivery of a larger section roller (HSR-3/100), chosen to support increased workload demands. Harris noted that although the smaller roller has performed well, the business is now stepping up to handle larger capacity jobs.

The machinery has had a strong impact on Mogul’s operations. “The machinery’s worked out really great. We’ve had no issues at all with any of the equipment. It’s been the right tools for what we needed,” Harris said. The advice received from Selmach’s team ensured each machine was selected with the right size and capability for the work they do.

The buying experience with Selmach has been consistently positive, from quotations through to delivery. Harris appreciated the ability to visit the showroom, discuss specific job types, and choose from a range of options that suited the business’s budget. “It’s worked out quite well in terms of the advice we’ve had. We’ve got a good relationship with the sales guys.”

Aftercare and ongoing support have also been highlights. Harris described Selmach’s service as responsive and reliable, with technical advice just a phone call away and in-person support available when needed. “There’s always somebody that’s able to pop down when you do have a real issue… I can rely on someone coming in to solve the problem.”

Looking to the future, Mogul is considering upgrades to existing equipment and increasing capacities across key machines — including potential investment in a lathe.

Harris concluded by saying, “I’d recommend Selmach as a one-stop shop to get anything for a fabrication workshop like ourselves. Everything we’ve received so far has been of good quality, and the aftercare is there if you have any issues.”
