Bridging the Skills Gap: Bringing Industrial-Grade Machinery into Education

DIMAKIN UK is proud to announce the successful installation of the HS-1365 Hydraulic Sheet Metal Shear at Moray College UHI in Elgin, Scotland. Installed in summer 2025, this project underscores our commitment to supporting technical education by providing future UK engineers with reliable, industrial-grade fabrication machinery.

The DIMAKIN team managed the full process — delivering, offloading, and precisely positioning the machine within the college’s engineering workshop. Following a full series of safety checks, the shear was handed over ready for immediate use in their students’ hands-on training.

What the Moray College UHI Curriculum Will Achieve

Moray College UHI continues to play a vital role in developing a skilled workforce for Scotland’s growing manufacturing and engineering sectors. The addition of the Dimakin HS-1365 greatly enhances the practical side of its fabrication and engineering programmes, allowing students to move beyond theoretical work and gain real-world operational experience.

By working with industry-standard equipment, learners can develop practical skills in material handling, measurement accuracy, and workshop safety — all essential competencies for careers in engineering and fabrication. The HS-1365 will be central to a wide variety of projects, helping students understand both the precision and responsibility required when operating heavy machinery.

The HS-1365 Sheet Metal Shear: Precision, Power and Paramount Safety

The Dimakin HS-1365 is a hydraulic sheet metal shear designed for precise, heavy-duty performance and built to meet both industrial and educational needs. Selected by Moray College UHI for its intuitive operation, safety features, and robust construction, it delivers reliable performance in every application.

Key Features Benefiting Fabrication Training:

  • Heavy-Duty Capacity: Hydraulic power system enables accurate shearing of up to 6.5 mm mild steel and 4.3 mm stainless steel across a 1320 mm cutting length, supporting a wide range of student projects.
  • Powerful Drive: Equipped with a 15 HP motor, delivering consistent strength and stability throughout the cutting cycle.
  • Precision Control: A hydraulic blade rake adjustment allows manual fine-tuning of the blade angle to match material thickness, reducing distortion and improving cut quality.
  • Efficient Operation: Adjustable stroke rate of 30 to 42 strokes per minute, combined with a built-in Digital Readout (DRO), gives students exposure to fast, production-style workflows.
  • Manual Back Gauge: A 600 mm manual back gauge helps students gain an understanding of precision measurement and manual setup in controlled workshop environments.
  • Durable Blades: Fitted with high-carbon, reversible blades, providing extended service life and consistent, clean shearing performance.
  • CE-Certified Safety: Fully compliant with UK and EU standards, incorporating full-length finger guards, emergency stops, and rear light-curtain safety guards that halt operation if the safe zone is breached.
