Brewfitt, a Yorkshire based drinks solution company, approached Micrometric Ltd with a clear vision for its CoolTube drinks dispenser. It needed a compact heat exchanger that required precision-engineered components to deliver top-tier performance. Micrometric Ltd were challenged to create a keg part that would not only integrate seamlessly into the dispenser but also ensure exceptional heat exchange and allow for variable dispense temperatures, guaranteeing perfect serves every time.
Micrometric played a critical role in manufacturing the CoolTube heat exchanger, showcasing our expertise in laser technology and complete manufacturing solutions. The key challenge was the assembly and welding of the cooling coils, which required innovative problem-solving and engineering precision.
The CoolTube comes in 10 and 15-way variants, requiring the coils to be threaded through an endplate and securely held in place. To achieve this, Micrometric Ltd designed and manufactured custom tooling and jigs, including the ‘hedgehog’, which precisely positioned the tubes during assembly
Initially, the company used wire erosion to trim the tubes flush to the end assembly, but this method was slow and costly. To improve efficiency, the company developed a specialised cutting machine that ensured a burr-free, contamination-free finish, enhancing both speed and quality.
With up to 15 coils per unit, welding each one individually would have been time-consuming. Instead, we developed a CNC program to accurately position the CoolTube for automated, simultaneous welding at the press of a button.
Beyond laser cutting and welding, we leveraged machining and TIG welding to deliver a fully integrated solution. The result is a high-performance, compact heat exchanger that enhances drink quality and efficiency—demonstrating our ability to engineer precision solutions at scale.
The CoolTube has become a leading-edge product in the drinks dispensing industry, known for its performance and versatility. With variable dispense temperatures, it ensures beverages are always served at their optimal temperature—a critical factor in delivering a premium drinking experience.-
