WJS UK is pleased to share a recent success story from SweBend, the Swedish metal forming experts they proudly represent in the UK.
The story features a visit from Russ Barnshaw and Sylwester Twardowski of Barnshaws – one of the world’s leading specialists in rolled metal components.
The visit centred around two classic Roundo machines that have been expertly restored and upgraded by SweBend’s experienced team – many of whom originally worked at Roundo in Hässleholm before its closure more than a decade ago.
The first, a Roundo PS460x3000 from 1991, was originally built by members of the current SweBend team. Though decades old, the machine remained mechanically sound. SweBend carried out a full overhaul, added a modern control system, and refinished the unit in SweBend colours – restoring both its performance and appearance to modern standards.
Also on display during the visit was a Roundo R-3 from 1998, which had recently undergone its own transformation. This machine was upgraded with frequency inverters for both rotation and the hydraulic pump, allowing for variable speed control and interpolation – capabilities the original model lacked.
Further enhancements included the addition of a Bluetooth control system and a separate electrical cabinet, increasing both operational precision and flexibility.
The legacy behind these machines runs deep. Russ Barnshaw and SweBend founder Peter Nilsson have worked together since the late 1980s, when Peter was part of the original Roundo team. That longstanding relationship continues today, built on mutual respect, shared values, and a dedication to high-quality engineering.
WJS Machine Tools, are proud to support SweBend’s work in the UK and help customers bring their legacy Roundo machines up to modern standards.
