Unifabs recognises that investing in the next generation of engineers is essential for the future of British manufacturing. Since 2022, the company has been offering engineering apprenticeships through the Unifabs Academy. These apprenticeship programmes provide structured training in engineering and sheet metal fabrication, equipping participants with practical experience and recognised qualifications.

Comprehensive Apprenticeship Training

Unifabs apprenticeships combine theoretical learning with hands-on experience, all delivered from the company’s Nuneaton facility. In partnership with Birmingham-based Train’d Up, apprentices gain essential industry knowledge while working on real projects. The programme covers key manufacturing skills, including:

  • Interpreting Manufacturing Drawings: Understanding tolerancing and manufacturing symbols.
  • SolidWorks: Developing proficiency in SolidWorks 3D CAD software, including basic modelling, tolerancing, and drawings for manufacture.
  • CNC Operations: Operating laser cutting, punching, and press brake bending machinery.
  • Welding and Fabrication: Learning key fabrication techniques under the guidance of skilled professionals.
  • Powder Coating and Finishing: Gaining expertise in high-quality finishing processes.
  • Mechanical Assembly and Inspection: Understanding the full end-to-end manufacturing process and ensuring components meet quality standards.

Upon completion, apprentices earn nationally recognised qualifications, including the Level 3 Metal Fabricator Apprenticeship Standard, setting them on the path to a successful career in manufacturing.

Fair Pay and Career Development

As a Living Wage accredited employer, Unifabs is committed to offering fair pay to its apprentices. Apprentices will earn £8.50 per hour in their first year, with an increase to £12.75 per hour in their second year. This exceeds the current Real Living Wage, providing financial stability and allowing apprentices to focus on developing their skills while earning competitive wages.

2025 Apprenticeship Open Day

To inspire the next wave of engineering talent, Unifabs is hosting a Manufacturing Apprenticeship Open Day on 29th March 2025 at its Nuneaton site. This event offers potential applicants the opportunity to:

  • Tour the company’s manufacturing facility.
  • Meet current apprentices and industry professionals.
  • Learn more about career opportunities within Unifabs.
  • Participate in Q&A sessions.
  • Understand the application process and apprenticeship structure.

The open day is aimed at school leavers, college students, and individuals considering a career change into engineering, providing them with a valuable opportunity to engage with the Unifabs team and gain first-hand insights into the industry.

Future Careers Fair

If you’re unable to attend the open day in March but would still like to meet the team and learn more about the apprenticeship programme, Unifabs will also be at the Future Careers Fair on 10th April 2025.
