Greenfield Engineering welcomed a group of work-experience students from Holsworthy Community College to its manufacturing facilities.
The visit formed part of a successful work-experience program that Greenfield Engineering has run for several years, giving local students practical insight into modern manufacturing and the career opportunities available through engineering apprenticeships.
During the programe, each student created their own custom lamp design and followed it through every stage of production—from the initial concept and technical design to laser cutting, CNC punching, folding, fabrication, powder coating and final assembly.
The completed lamp pictured was designed and manufactured by Elise. It demonstrates how students are given the opportunity to take genuine ownership of a project and understand how the different manufacturing processes come together to create a finished product.
Accompanied by the college’s careers team and teaching staff, the students also toured our facilities and saw advanced machinery operating within a live production environment. The visit highlighted Greenfield Engineering’s continued investment in state-of-the-art technology, sustainable manufacturing and the development of a skilled, locally based workforce.
Managing Director Gary Burnard and Production Manager Lee Harris welcomed the students and dedicated time to sharing their engineering knowledge, experience and enthusiasm for UK manufacturing.

This programe helps demonstrate the variety of skills and career opportunities available within modern engineering while supporting the development of our future local workforce,” said David Valins, Health, Safety, Environmental and Training Co-Ordinator.
Greenfield Engineering thanks Holsworthy Community College for organising the work-experience placement, together with the careers team and tutors who supported the students throughout the programme. By connecting education with local industry and providing meaningful, hands-on experience, we hope to raise awareness of modern manufacturing, demonstrate the value of apprenticeships and inspire the next generation of engineers.
