Lindab will deliver the world’s first ventilation ducts in fossil-free steel to an innovative construction project in Sweden. The real estate company Vectura is developing and managing the project, and Skanska handles the construction. The aim is for the property to be LEED Gold certified.
The fossil-free steel comes from SSAB and is produced using the HYBRIT® technology. As one of few suppliers, Lindab has received a test delivery, which makes it possible to deliver products several years before the planned regular production of fossil-free steel, which is expected to begin in 2026.
The 24,000 square metre building will house offices and research facilities and is designed to be a symbol of innovation and sustainability. Aiming for LEED Gold certification, the building will fulfil strict environmental requirements and contribute to a more sustainable future.
One kilometre of ventilation ducts in fossil-free steel
“We are very proud of Lindab’s contribution to the property in the form of one kilometre of ventilation ducts made of SSAB’s fossil-free steel. It is yet another step in the right direction to reduce both our own and our customers’ climate impact,” says Ola Ringdahl, President and CEO of Lindab.
“This is an excellent example of how we, together with our customers and suppliers, work with innovations in order to pave new ways for future solutions in the climate area. By daring to try new things, we create the conditions for broadening the scope in the next project,” says Staffan Andersson, Vice President of Skanska Sverige AB.
Matilda Isaksson, Sustainability Manager at Lindab, adds: “By using SSAB’s fossil-free steel in our ventilation ducts, we support a more sustainable construction industry. This project is proof of what can be achieved through innovation and co-operation.”
Patrik Lamberth, Project Manager at Vectura, comments: “The building will be a symbol of innovation, a meeting place for new thinking and knowledge where people develop and learn from each other. With the contribution of Lindab, Skanska and SSAB, we will achieve our ambitious environmental goals.”
By using pioneering materials and technologies, Lindab, SSAB, Skanska and Vectura are leading the way for future sustainable construction projects.
