Caunton Engineering’s Training Academy undertakes the critical role of training and developing the future workforce of our company, providing the necessary skills and knowledge to ensure ongoing success.
Galvanising of structural steelwork is a major benefit under certain circumstances for surface protection. To study this, a group of first year apprentices from the Academy visited Worksop Galvanising Limited recently. The Worksop plant has the largest galvanizing bath in the UK at 21m long and it specialises in structural steelwork and other large products. It is a hot dip galvanizing process and adheres to all international standards. This visit gave the apprentices an excellent insight into how the galvanising process is carried out. Advice was given too to the apprentices on the designing and detailing of galvanised steelwork – for example the need for drain holes in the correct place and the importance of not welding the corners on stiffeners, in order for the galvanizing to flow through and off the steel.
Caunton are incredibly proud of the hard work that both our Training Academy and apprentices complete. This visit will further add to the knowledge our apprentices have gained.
