The Butterfly Appeal has officially come to an end following a hugely successful campaign raising £95,347. The final display closed recently after welcoming thousands of visitors to Wentworth Woodhouse.

MTL Advanced is incredibly proud to have played a part in such a meaningful community initiative, with our talented apprentices manufacturing all 2,000 steel butterflies at our state-of-the-art facility in Rotherham.

The project showcased the wide range of skills developed through our apprenticeship programme. Every butterfly was laser cut, folded and welded entirely in-house before being finished externally, with an engraved tag carrying a personal message or cherished memory of a loved one. The result was a stunning display that provided families with a special place to reflect while raising vital funds for Rotherham Hospice.

Following the conclusion of the campaign on Sunday, volunteers from Wentworth Woodhouse, together with a team of HSBC volunteers, carefully removed each butterfly from the display field. Every butterfly was individually boxed and prepared ready to be sent to the people who purchased them, allowing supporters to keep their butterfly as a keepsake.

Projects such as the Butterfly Appeal demonstrate how engineering can make a real difference beyond manufacturing, supporting local communities while giving apprentices the opportunity to contribute to something truly memorable.

MTL Engineering would like to thank everyone involved in making the appeal such a success, including Rotherham Hospice, Wentworth Woodhouse, the volunteers and everyone who purchased a butterfly in support of this fantastic cause.

With a new intake of apprentices joining MTL Advanced soon, the company looks forward to welcoming the next generation of engineers. They will have the opportunity to work on exciting, real-world projects just like the Butterfly Appeal.
