Cumbria Manufacturing Alliance (CMA) is made up of two of the UK’s leading Mechanical Engineering companies both regarded as tactical key supply chain partners by Sellafield Site. Bendals Engineering (BEL), part of the Engineering division of Carr’s Group PLC, and West Cumberland Engineering Ltd (WCEL), part of the Shepley Group, have agreed a combination of their respective resources, capabilities, and core competencies. This offers clients an unrivalled end to end professional engineering capability from design through to testing, covering a wide range of project requirements in designing, manufacturing, or distributing goods or services.

With a combined workspace of around 12,000m2 across three sites in Cumbria, CMA can be widely utilised for a range of testing and inspection requirements welding fabrication, precision machining, final assembly, and prototyping. Various turning and milling machine resources include a Correa Fox 60 milling machine and overhead cranage ranging from 2 to 70 tonnes. Both businesses hold the Sellafield Certificate of Approval for Buils 1 and 2, – Pipework, Pressure Vessels and Heat Exchangers.
Bendalls Engineering has a long and successful history, both as a stand along company and as part of Carr’s Group PLC. West Cumberland Engineering Ltd was established in 1996 as a member of the Shepley Group. Both have a long standing history of manufacturing and installing high-quality welded fabricators with strong development & apprenticeship programmes.
This new partnership allows the two businesses to join forces, creating a comprehensive, quality focused organisation with shared capabilities allowing CMA to complete a full turnkey solution.
