Transitioning from plastic tape to paper tape has delivered clear sustainability gains across production. Paper tape, made from renewable fibre rather than fossil-based materials, reduces further reliance on plastics and lowers the environmental footprint of routine packaging processes. Its ability to be recycled alongside cardboard improves waste handling efficiency by eliminating the need to separate mixed materials for us and our customers.
A measurable outcome of the change, is the removal of approximately 119 km of plastic tape from use over the last 18 months. This reduction significantly decreases the volume of non-recyclable waste generated and supports higher overall recycling rates, contributing to internal sustainability targets and broader environmental commitments.
As well as the environmental benefits, paper tape also provides a strong, consistent seal and is more aesthetically pleasing to our product leaving the factory. This strong, consistent seal reduces the need for re-taping or repacking, cutting material use and furthermore limiting the carbon impact associated with transport damage or returns.
Overall, the move to paper tape represents a practical improvement in resource efficiency, waste reduction, and responsible material management across the business.
