Sustainability is one of those words that is frequently used these days. But for us at D&M Design & Fabrication, it’s not about ticking boxes or making ourselves look good — it’s about doing the right thing, day to day.

Fabrication isn’t always seen as the cleanest industry. It uses energy, creates waste, and requires a lot of materials. But that doesn’t mean we can’t do it better.

Reducing Waste

The company’s laser machines are set up to get the most out of every sheet of metal. That means fewer offcuts, less waste, and lower energy use. When there is scrap left over, D&M Design & Fabrication don’t just toss it aside. Any packaging materials such as cardboard and bubble wrap are collected for recycling. The company also plan its jobs to run as smoothly as possible. If a machine sits idle, it’s still using energy. So the more efficiently we work, the less we waste — it’s better for the planet and customers too.

Sourcing Materials Responsibly

Where materials are sourced matters. The company try to use recycled aluminium and steel wherever possible, and likes to keep its supply chain local. That means fewer lorries on the road, and less unnecessary carbon from shipping.

A More Efficient Workshop

D&M Design & Fabrication has invested in machines that don’t just work hard — they work smart. Our CNC lasers and presses are selected for their performance, as well as their energy efficiency.

The company are also upgrading the rest of the workshop. Things like LED lighting, motion sensor lighting, recycled pallets, recycled office paper, segregating our waste and thinking more carefully about how we run day to day — it all adds up.

Built to Last

At D&M, the company focus on quality. Every part made, whether it’s a one-off or part of a big run, is designed to hold up over time. They don’t do shortcuts, and they don’t do throwaway work. The longer something lasts, the less impact it has in the long run.
