Shufflebottom, believe that every building tells a story. With nearly fifty years of experience supplying steel-framed buildings across the UK, the company has seen farms and rural businesses evolve, diversify, and thrive. One such story unfolded at Bridge Farm in Barcombe, East Sussex; and Shufflebottom are proud to play a role in its latest chapter.
From Dairy Farm to Business Hub
Bridge Farm has a long and fascinating history. It was once a dairy farm and even home to a Roman settlement. Over the centuries Bridge Farm has continually adapted to the times. Since 2009, under the ownership of HB & MC Stroude, the farm has been undergoing an exciting transformation.
At first, older dairy buildings were converted into workshops and storage units, which proved incredibly popular with local businesses. This success highlighted a growing demand for high-quality rural workspaces and inspired a bold new direction: building modern industrial workshop and warehouse units from the ground up.
Building for the future
That’s where Shufflebottom rejoin the story. Having worked with HB & MC Stroude before, Shufflebottom were delighted to be chosen again as their trusted supplier. In 2023 planning permission was granted for a brand-new 13,500 square foot industrial building, and by mid-2024, four new workshop and warehouse units were ready to welcome local businesses.
These new spaces are more than just buildings; they represent fresh opportunities for rural enterprise. In a sought after location near the A26, the units offer modern, flexible workspaces with long-term stability for companies looking to grow.
A shared commitment
For landlords Mark Stroude and Tristan Hosken, the new units are a rare chance to provide premium workspaces in a rural setting that blends heritage with progress. For Shufflebottom, it’s another opportunity to support a customer’s vision and deliver a building that underpins future success.
We’re proud to know that our steel-framed agricultural buildings aren’t just about strength and durability; they’re about supporting communities, enabling diversification, and helping rural businesses thrive for generations to come.
