The company’s Bystronic Bystar 20 kilowatt fiber laser, the most recent addition to its sheet metal laser cutting capability, is helping it stay ahead of the game when it comes to quality and service levels.

Bystronic’s new ByStar Fiber offers 20kW of laser power

The leap in output against the previously available 15 kilowatt laser is considerable, with an average increase in productivity of 40% for medium thickness mild steel and stainless steel sheets.

The company is now able to cut thicker materials much more reliably whilst achieving excellent cut quality and reduced burring. In particular, exceptional cutting results have been seen on mild steel up to 30mm, stainless steel and aluminium up to 40mm, and copper and brass up to 15mm.

Staying at the forefront of changes in technology is essential for the business as it strives to offer the best quality and service levels in UK laser cutting, with the excellence of the customer experience being its primary consideration.

The 20 kilowatt machine retains all the high-precision technology of previous machines, whilst now automatically selecting the correct parameters for the parts being cut. Its enhanced technology, high quality cutting head, and intelligent cutting process enable the company to achieve the highest levels of quality even in demanding applications, resulting in laser cutting results for customers that complement its world class service levels.

Specific step changes with this machine include the Integrated Automatic Beamshaper and Mixed Gas Cutting.

Automatic Beamshaper & Spot Control

The Beamshaper automatically adapts the size of the laser beam and Spot Control automatically adapts the focal point to the material and its thickness, giving greater edge quality and faster cutting speed. The Beamshaper technology is now fully integrated into the cutting head.

Mixed Gas Cutting

Cutting with MixGas (a specific blend of Nitrogen and Oxygen) combines the benefits of both Oxygen and Nitrogen cutting. Excellent cutting quality, as with pure oxygen, is combined with the high cutting speeds of pure nitrogen, resulting in a clean cut with minimal burr, even when cutting at high speeds or with lower quality material.

The 20 kilowatt machine has not only increased the company’s capacity, productivity, and efficiency, but has markedly improved production lead times, enabling it to continue to offer industry-leading levels of service and deliver exactly what customers need, when they need it.
